Telithromycin (sold under the brand name of Ketek) is a ketolide antibiotic drug used to treat respiratory infections. Subsequent to its approval by the FDA in 2004, Ketek became the drug of choice for treating acute bacterial infections (e.g. bacterial sinusitis, chronic bronchitis) and certain types of chronic pneumonia.

Ketek causes a number of serious side effects, however, among which liver failure, drug-induced hepatitis, and gastrointestinal maladies including diarrhea, nausea, gut pain and vomiting have all been documented. Headaches and sensory disturbances, palpitations, blurred vision and skin conditions have also been clinically associated with Ketek.

As recently as 2006 the FDA's Office of Epidemiology and Surveillance blamed twelve cases of liver failure (and four deaths) on the drug, along with 23 cases of serious liver injury in patients taking Ketek; and by 2008, independent analysis using FDA data linked Ketek to 18 deaths and at least 134 cases of liver damage.

If you have suffered any adverse side effects as the result of Ketek, you owe it to yourself to retain the services of a Ketek lawyer. A trained Ketek attorney is a specialist in the effects of this powerful drug and can determine if grounds for a Ketek lawsuit apply in your case.
