Epogen
Epogen (epoetin alfa) is a synthetic form of erythropoietin, a hormone that controls the body’s red blood cell production. Epogen stimulates red blood cell production and is used to treat anemia of the type that results from chemotherapy and/or radiation treatments.
Unfortunately, recent evidence suggests that Epogen has potentially deadly side effects. Patients with a condition called pure red blood cell aplasia (PRCA) are at particular risk. In patients with PRCA, the red blood cell-producing bone marrow is attacked by the body’s own white blood cells; to these patients, taking Epogen -- a red blood cell production booster – is like throwing gasoline on a fire.
Epogen has also been associated with the formation of blood clots in the lungs and veins. Should one of these blood clots break loose, the clot may move to the heart, brain, or other organs, causing strokes, heart attacks, and kidney failure. Seizures and other negative effects of Epogen have also been reported.
If you have been injured by Epogen, you deserve compensation – the kind that only an Epogen attorney can obtain for you. By filing an Epogen lawsuit on your behalf, your Epogen lawyer can make certain that your losses do not go uncompensated.
