Avandia
Avandia (rosiglitazone) is an oral supplement marketed by maker GlaxoSmithKline as an easy method of managing blood sugar levels. The FDA approved Avandia in 1999 for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, and some 60 million prescriptions have been written for Avandia since then.
But many users of Avandia have experienced significant and even life-threatening side effects. Thousands of diabetes patients who have taken the drug have suffered from side effects, such as excess fluid retention, edema (dangerous internal swelling), and even congestive heart failure, leading the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to issue warnings about Avandia.
And in 2007, the manufacturer of Avandia released the results of a controlled clinical trial which suggested that patients receiving short-term treatment with Avandia may have a 30-40 percent greater risk of heart attack and other heart-related problems than patients treated with other therapies.
The marketing of Avandia without full disclosure of its potentially adverse side effects constitutes negligence on the part of its maker – and you may be a victim of that negligence. Only an Avandia lawyer experienced in this issue can tell.
