Ace Inhibitors
ACE inhibitors (Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme inhibitors) are any of a number of related drugs used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), congestive heart failure, ventricular (heart valve) dysfunction and kidney disease in patients with diabetes. ACE inhibitors are effective drugs. Unfortunately, recent studies have linked them with a number of side effects, some extremely grave.
The most significant of these is the relationship between ACE inhibitors and fetal damage. Research indicates that ACE inhibitors can cause serious birth defects if taken by mothers during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Other potentially serious side effects include:
- Hypotension (low blood pressure)
- Cough
- Hyperkalemia (elevated blood potassium levels, which can lead to heart attack)
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Rash
- Taste disturbances
- Renal impairment (kidney problems)
- Renal failure
- Severe allergic reaction, and
- Angioedema (swelling of the heart)
If you or a loved one believe you have suffered due to taking ACE inhibitors, you should consult with an experienced ACE inhibitor attorney immediately. He or she can determine if you have grounds for an ACE inhibitors lawsuit, and, if so, can act as your ACE inhibitor attorney to get the compensation you deserve.
